1945 Colt M1911A1 U.S. Army .45 ACP

This 1945 Colt M1911A1 U.S. Army is a fine example of a Parko-Lubrite phosphate finished military pistol. It’s fitted with the standard 5” in barrel, chambered in .45 ACP and capable of carrying 7-rounds in the single included magazine.  This pistol wears the acceptance mark “G.H.D” of Brigadier General Guy H. Drewry.

This Parko-Lubrite phosphate finish on this pistol is smooth throughout the slide and frame with minimal areas of pitting or thinning. There is silvering on the leading and high edges. Most of the edges still retain their sharpness.

The markings on this pistol are all easily identified and read. The left side of the slide is marked with Colt’s patent and address split by the rampant colt, “PATENTED APR. 20, 1897 – SEPT. 9, 1902 DEC. 19, 1905 – FEB.14, 1911 – AUG.19,1913” & “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO.” HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.” The frames left side shows the acceptance mark “G.H.D.” & “P” splitting the magazine catch. A triangle VP cartouche is on the left side trigger bow.

The right side of this M1911A1 shows a blank slide face. The right side of the frame is marked with Cross canons behind the grip panel. Above the trigger “UNITED STATES PROPERTY” “M1911A1 U.S. ARMY” and the serial number below the USP “No 2286548”.

The barrel is blue in finish and shows a “7” in front of the lug and “P” on the right side of the lug. The barrel shows strong lands and grooves however, shows dark. The plastic grip panels are in good shape, with sharp checkering on both sides, the right panel shows no major marks and some areas of flattening noted on the left panel.  The magazine has an “R” stamped on the top toe and a “C-R” on the bottom”

Internally the pistol displays clean and shows no noticeable proof or acceptance marks.

Overall, this is a fine example of a late World War II U.S. ARMY issued M1911A1. That shows its age and service excellently and would be a wonderful addition to any small arms collection.
